H.P. and Cthulhu

I have been absent for a while from my blog and RedBubble.  I have been working on other projects and hadn't felt an inspiring idea.  I recently read some short stories from H.P. Lovecraft.  I am not sure why I had never read him before.  I have seen many pieces using his Cthulhu creation and always wondered what it was about.  I found his stories intriguing and engaging.

I tried to think of a funny way to pair Lovecraft and Cthulhu.  I figured putting them into a Calvin and Hobbes picture was a humorous way to do that.  For this piece I used Bill Watterson's work as a guide.  I redrew and repainted the work.  I like how it turned out.  I hope you enjoy it as well.

2 New Ones

Well it looks like it has been about 6 months since I last posted something.  I don't know of many people that read this blog but looking at my page views it seems that someone does so here is an update.

Internet Fact Checker - This one I made because of a friend of mine.  He likes to get into discussions online that sometimes get heated and he especially likes to point out errors in peoples ideas.  So I thought the idea of an Internet fact checker sounded funny.  I tried to go with an old propaganda poster style.  I am not sure if it comes off that way but I like how it turned out.

Travel in Style - This idea has been percolating for a while.  It started off with a vague idea using the Tardis, DeLorean, and Bill and Ted phone booth.  Eventually it turned into different methods of time travel.  I have to say I haven't seen a couple of the movies I used but I picked them because of their visual interest.  Can you name all of the movies/TV shows?

Roy & Moss

I haven't posted in a while so I thought I would post a shirt I did recently.  I am a big fan of the show IT Crowd.  The characters Roy and Moss have a great chemistry and this idea captures it for me.  They have great conversations, sometimes they fight, but mostly they have adventures.

DMCA Blues

I had several of my works pulled from RedBubble per a DMCA request.  They were some of my Angry Birds works.  I am all for protecting people's intellectual property.  I can agree with two of the take downs.  There wasn't enough in those two works that made the images really my own work.  However the other two bear striking similarities to over 300 hundred Angry Birds works still on the RedBubble site.  One of my removed works was even re-posted to the site of an authorized Angry Birds merchandiser.  The other odd part is that one of my Angry Birds works is still online.  Weird.

I guess the lesson is to make sure you don't get close to the imaginary copyright line.  Live and learn.

iPhone Cases

Since RedBubble started offering iPhone cases I have been working on converting some old works to the new format as well as making some new ones.  Here is one example of a new one I did that was done by request from a friend. (I am editing this post to remove the artwork.  It was part of a DMCA removal request on a different site so I don't want to have it on here.  See above post)

If you would like to view all the cases I have available click here.

New Product for RedBubble

RedBubble, the site I use for selling my work, has added a new product.  They now offer iPhone cases.  I have tried it out with my Birtdfather art.  Let me know what you think.

Perry the Platypus vs. Heinz Doofenshmirtz

My kids are pretty big fans of Phineas and Ferb.  With my kids being fans I have seen a few episodes and have always liked Perry the Platypus.  With all the talk lately of who will be the Republican candidate for president I couldn't help but think of Perry the Platypus whenever I saw Rick Perry.  I don't really have an opinion either way about Rick Perry but I think Perry the Playtpus would make a fine president.  Less talk, more action.  After having posted my Perry the Platypus for President t-shirt someone suggested I should do a Doofenshmirtz shirt.  With that in mind I figured the Obama logo would balance out Perry the Platypus for President quite well.  I think it works.  Enjoy.

Angry Birds

I like Angry Birds.  I think a lot of people like Angry Birds.  I have seen some parody t-shirts with Angry Birds so I decided to try my hand at some.  I really like how these turned out.  The Pig Busters one came first and I got that one done over a weekend.  The Birdfather took just a couple of days as well.

I think my favorite detail was the slingshot on The Birdfather.  I was done with the main image and I was doing the text.  The original image has a hand with puppet strings.  I was just going to do that when I thought of the slingshot.  I think it turned out pretty well.  I have received a lot of positive feedback about both of these.  Enjoy!

Zombie Birthday

This is a birthday card I made a while back.  I like zombies so I think about them occasionally.  I was trying to think of an interesting card at the time so the two ideas fit together perfectly (in my head at least).  Some people might think it's a little disgusting but for me it makes me smile.  Zombies sometimes get a bad rap.  They just wanted to enjoy the party too.  You can't blame them for that (maybe the deceased's relatives might).

Charlie Sheen, humor gold mine...

As I am sure many of you know, Charlie Sheen has been in the news lately. It is hard to describe his current mental status without seeing him in an interview. He has made some pretty wild comments so I decided to commemorate a few of my favorites as T-shirts. It started out funny but now I just feel bad for the guy.

Flame Train

This t-shirt was made as a gift for my father-in-law's birthday.  I based the design off of another t-shirt I made called Tricked out Model T.  My father-in-law is pretty big into model trains so I had my mother-in-law take a picture of one of his model engines as a reference.  This is the result.  It sounds like the gift went over really well.  I am pretty satisfied with how it turned out.  Let me know what you think of it.

Radio Robot

Radio Robot came about from some sketches I had been doing for T-shirt ideas.  I had wanted to do another robot character.  I wanted him to be made up of simple shapes and few colors.  I had originally had a different body and arms for him but it wasn't working out and I scrapped them.  I think this body works much better and the boombox (do they still call them boomboxes?) was a last minute addition.  I like that he is an advanced robot listening to a tape player.  I hope you enjoy it.

The Bird goes RAWR!

Well it has been a while since I have shown off a design.  I apologize for the lack of activity.

There really isn't much to say about this one.  I was working on someone's computer at work and was letting my mind wander.  I had this idea so I sketched it out real quick.  Actually creating the design did not take much time at all.  Hopefully you enjoy it.

I Invade NY

This t-shirt is dedicated to my brother and future sister-in-law.  They live in New York City and I thought I would make something for them.  NY has many dangers but none worse than hungry aliens bent on destruction and domination.  Enjoy!

Gushing Rainbows

I know the tragedy in the Gulf is on a lot of people's minds.  I had this idea for a shirt for a week or so but wasn't sure if I should do it or not.  The real purpose is to make someone smile when they see it.  I am not the type of person that sets out to make big important statements about issues with my art.  I try to do my art and hope it has an effect on the person viewing it whether that is a smile, chuckle, grimace, or whatever else.  People add their own experience when viewing art which is why I love doing it.  Let me know what you think.

Umbrella Monster

This is another piece in my monster series for kids clothing. He came about in a brainstorming session after I decided I didn't like the other sketches I had made for monsters. This one is all set for the rainy days ahead.

5 Year Old Princess

The other day my daughter was drawing a picture at the computer desk.  When I saw it I thought it was really good so I decided to make it into a t-shirt.  I made some slight changes to it and then added the cloud and stars but I think it turned out really well.  I am very proud of her work.  Here is the original.

Lil Monster

With the addition of kids clothing on Red Bubble, I decided I wanted to try some designs for kids. I liked the idea of a single color, simple shaped design. I thought a monster theme would be appropriate for my kids' designs. Definitely not drooling, scary monsters but nice, cute ones (maybe a little devilish, these are for kids after all). So hope you like it. I already have a few sketches for some more.

Frank Sings

This is my newest t-shirt.  I have been working on it for about a week now.  This is one of those ideas that came while looking at other people's work.  I saw someone's zombie t-shirt and I started thinking about classic horror monsters and putting them in weird situations in my head.  This one seemed funny to me.  I think singing probably helped Frank to be less angry and not to kill so much.  Enjoy.
